News Release imageAurora Fire responded to four total grass fires this afternoon. 

The first fire was near Smith Rd. and Airport Blvd. at approximately 10:26 a.m. This fire was contained quickly by responding crews and estimated to be about half to one acre in size.

The other three fires all happened within minutes of each other beginning around 1:15 p.m. Aurora Fire Rescue was able to quickly get the right size response to all three fires. The fire on Montview Blvd. and 17th Ave. (Tollgate Creek) is estimated to be 2 acres in size. Currently, Fitzsimmons Pkwy. at 17th Ave. and Montview Blvd are closed. The RTD R-line is also shut down and will remain closed for another 2 hours as crews mop up and extinguish all hot spots.

The second and third fires were also quickly extinguished by responding crews and were located near I-70 and Pena Blvd. and Hampden Ave. and S. Fairplay Way respectively.

Due to the fast actions of firefighters, the grass fires didn’t grow more than a half-acre in size.
