Americans With Disabilities Act and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act
The city of Aurora affirmatively supports compliance with the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973. As a reflection of this support, the city shall not tolerate incidents of discrimination against individuals with disabilities either in its employment practices or in providing access to municipal services, activities or programs.
Although the ADA does not require the city of Aurora to take any action that would fundamentally alter the nature of its programs or services, or impose an undue financial or administrative burden, the city shall make every effort to reasonably accommodate qualified individuals with disabilities through provision of auxiliary aids, and through reasonable modifications to policies and programs, to ensure that individuals with disabilities have an equal opportunity to enjoy all of the city's programs, services and activities.
Anyone who requires an auxiliary aid or service for effective communication, or a modification of policies or procedures to participate in a program, service or activity of the city of Aurora, should contact the office of Accessibility as soon as possible but no later than 48 hours before the scheduled event. Please visit our Accessibility page to access our web form and/or to access our email, phone number and mailing address.
The city of Aurora will not place a surcharge on a particular individual with a disability or any group of individuals with disabilities to cover the cost of providing auxiliary aids/services or reasonable modifications of policy, such as retrieving items from locations that are open to the public but are not accessible to persons who use wheelchairs.
Complaints or grievances that a program, service or activity of the city of Aurora is not accessible to persons with disabilities should be directed to the city of Aurora's certified ADA Coordinator via our webform, via email, or through direct phone communication with the ADA Coordinator.
