East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit

Aurora, in partnership with the city and county of Denver, RTD, CDOT and DRCOG, is supporting the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit (BRT).

The city of Aurora negotiated an intergovernmental agreement with Denver to fund the design and construction of BRT elements along the Aurora portion of Colfax.

East Colfax BRT Construction is now extending into Aurora, from Yosemite to I-225:
-Construction will be completed in a single phase, with work occurring simultaneously at both eastbound and westbound stations.
-Traffic control cones and lane closures will be used in active construction zones as work progresses.
-Traffic will remain open in the center lanes of East Colfax Ave. throughout the project.
-Work will progress block by block, with each section expected to take about 3 to 6 months to complete.
-Construction work for the side-running stations will occur within designated work zones that include portions of the sidewalk.

In progress:

Both directions of Colfax Avenue at Havana Street will have lane closures around the clock through June 22 due to the installation of new infrastructure related to the East Colfax Bus Rapid Transit Project.

BRT systems are designed to move more people with more safety, efficiency and reliability. Buses will run down dedicated center transit lanes in Denver and in mixed flow through Aurora, significantly reducing travel times within the project’s boundaries—from Union Station in Denver to RTD’s R-Line Station at I-225 in Aurora.

Businesses along the Colfax corridor can take a self-assessment to ready themselves for construction. More information—including a small business toolkit with resources for how to thrive during construction—is available at DenverGov.org/ColfaxBRT.
