About Neighborhood Support Division

The Neighborhood Support Division serves the city of Aurora by administrating and enforcing the Aurora Municipal Code of Ordinances and the International Codes adopted for fire, zoning, building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical requirements. Our team works to foster self-reliance, support neighborhood pride, and enhance the city's overall physical appearance. Our mission is to promote community health and maintain property values by enforcing minimum property maintenance standards for residential and business properties. Here's how we operate:

  • Proactive Patrols and Responses: Certified Code Enforcement Officers investigate complaints and proactively patrol their assigned areas to identify violations. View the patrol map.

  • Notification and Compliance: When a violation is identified, property owners and/or occupants receive a Notice of Violation with a specific timeline to address the issue.

  • Escalation Process: Non-compliance may lead to property abatement and/or a summons to appear in court. When a violation is found, property owners and/or occupants are given a specified time to correct the violation. Failure to comply with a Notice of Violation may result in property abatement and/or receiving a summons to appear in court.

Code Enforcement Priorities

Code Enforcement prioritizes its response to complaints to try to meet the needs of the community with available resources. Code Enforcement strives to respond to address private property violations with an initial inspection within 48 hours of receiving the case request. Cases that pose imminent health and safety hazards or constitute significant code violations are given the highest priority since they have the highest potential to result in significant harm to the community. For more details on how cases are prioritized, refer to this chart.
