Snow Busters

The city of Aurora’s Snow Busters program pairs community volunteers with neighbors who live within three miles of them and have limited financial resources or are incapable of shoveling their sidewalk after a snowfall due to age, disability, or other conditions.

Volunteer with Snow Busters

Volunteers commit to helping one person for one snow season. This is a great volunteer project for families, church groups, scout troops, and other groups.

To volunteer as a Snow Buster, you must:

  • Commit to assisting the resident in need for an entire snow season, beginning in the fall and ending in the spring

  • Shovel the public sidewalk of the resident within 24 hours of a snowfall of two (2) inches or more

  • Be 14 years of age or older (youth 14 and 15 years old must be accompanied by a parent or guardian)

  • Pass a background check

The Snow Busters program is not set up to send volunteers on demand to those needing assistance, so there is no guarantee that you will be matched.

Need a hand with shoveling snow?

To be eligible to receive free assistance, the individual must:
  • Be a resident of Aurora

  • Have limited financial resources

  • Be unable to shovel your sidewalk due to age, disability or other condition

To apply, download and complete the application, and scan it to [email protected] or mail it to:

You will be notified when you have been matched with a volunteer. Please note that this program is not available to match people in real time; because the need for assistance typically exceeds the number of available volunteers, there may be a wait list before a match can be made.
