Waiting for Godot opens Season 41 at the Aurora Fox Arts Center Jan. 30

The Aurora Fox Arts Center opens its Season 41 with “Waiting for Godot” by Samuel Beckett, one of the most influential plays of the 20th century. Directed by Rodney Lizcano, the production runs from Friday, Jan. 30, through Sunday, Feb. 22, on the Fox Mainstage at 9900 E. Colfax Ave.
In this landmark work of modern theater, two wandering companions, Vladimir and Estragon, linger on a desolate roadside, passing time as they await the arrival of the mysterious Mr. Godot. As the boundaries of time, place and memory blur, the pair wrestle with life’s biggest questions — hope, purpose and the meaning we assign to existence. Their vigil is interrupted by the arrival of two eccentric travelers, one bound to the other by a rope, setting the stage for encounters that are by turns hilarious, heartbreaking and deeply human.
“’Waiting for Godot’ speaks powerfully to our present moment, where uncertainty and delayed answers define much of modern life,” Lizcano said. “This production invites audiences to sit with ambiguity, recognize themselves in the pauses and silences, and find dark humor, connection and hope even when clarity never arrives.”
Widely hailed as one of the great achievements in Western dramatic literature, “Waiting for Godot” remains a powerful and accessible exploration of connection, endurance and the absurdity of the human condition, brought to life in a bold new production by the Aurora Fox.
Performances are at 7:30 p.m. on Fridays and Saturdays and at 2 p.m. on Sundays. A special daytime matinee performance will be offered at 10 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19, with $15 tickets available. This performance is recommended for ages 14 and older and includes cartoonish violence and coarse language.
