Automated Photo Safety Enforcement Program

Committed to safer streets through speed enforcement

The City of Aurora and the Aurora Police Department are working to improve community safety, decrease traffic violations and collisions, and help increase community safety for all road users.

That’s why Aurora has partnered with Verra Mobility to deploy two mobile speed cameras at key locations to reduce reckless speeding and change driver behavior.

These cameras have been proven effective in reducing crashes and serious injuries. We want to stop this behavior before it becomes even more dangerous or even fatal. Verra Mobility’s programs across the U.S. gathered 11.6 million speed citations in 2023, with a recidivism rate of 62%, meaning most violators did not repeat their illegal behavior.

This is just one of the many tools Aurora employs to keep the community safe.

When: The program begins Oct. 28, 2025, with warnings for the first month. The citation period begins Nov. 27, 2025.

Who: Any vehicles recorded traveling 11 mph or more above the speed limit would be considered in violation once verified independently by the Aurora Police Department. The decision to issue a violation at 11 mph or more is based on Colorado State Statute 42-4-110.5.

How: Aurora’s program features two mobile speed cameras that will be placed at key locations in the city.

Where: Speed cameras are restricted to residential areas where the speed limit is 35 mph or less, school zones, streets that border municipal parks and work zones. Locations are chosen based on traffic safety risks or history. Speed cameras are accompanied by signage to warn motorists of the enforcement zone in accordance with state law.

Fines: State-capped at $40 per citation, $80 in school zones. Motorists who receive a citation for driving more than 25 mph over the posted speed limit will receive a summons for a traffic offense that can be disputed in the Aurora Municipal Court. Fines will pay for the program and traffic safety improvements in the city.
