UPDATE: 5th Aurora Fugitive from Aug. 18 Burglary, Menacing Arrested in New York
Posted on 09/20/2024

(Jan. 28, 2025) – An Aurora fugitive wanted for burglary and felony menacing in August was arrested early Tuesday morning in New York City as part of an extensive investigation by Aurora Police Department detectives assigned to the Operation Safe Haven Task Force.

Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, 26, was arrested early Tuesday morning by Drug Enforcement Administration and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations officers in the Bronx borough of New York City.

“The Aurora Police Department values its positive working relationships with law enforcement at the local, state and federal level,” said Aurora police Chief Todd Chamberlain. “This collaboration resulted in the apprehension of a violent criminal, and we are thankful he can no longer victimize members of our community here in Aurora, as well as residents of New York City.”

Zambrano-Pacheco was wanted on an Aurora Police Department warrant for first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm, both felonies. The warrant was authored by investigators assigned to Operation Safe Haven, which is a special Aurora Police Department task force activated in August to investigate crimes involving the city’s migrant community.

The warrant stemmed from Aug. 18, when a security camera captured Zambrano-Pacheco and five other armed men knocking on doors at an apartment complex about 10 minutes before a fatal shooting in the 1200 block of Dallas Street. By Oct. 2, Operation Safe Haven investigators positively identified and obtained arrest warrants for all six suspects. Five are now in custody.

The suspects include:

• Naudi Lopez-Fernandez – In custody
• Edilson Yoel Pena-Angulo – In custody
• Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses – In custody
• Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco – In custody
• Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta – In custody
• Adan Jose Ramirez-Sanchez – Wanted

Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta, 20, was arrested last month when about 2:30 a.m. Tuesday, Dec. 17, 2024, Aurora police patrol officers responded to a report of a kidnapping at The Edge at Lowry Apartments, located in the 1200 block of Dallas Street. The investigation into that incident to date has determined two victims were confronted by approximately a dozen armed suspects and taken to a vacant apartment against their will where they were bound, threatened and assaulted.

Operation Safe Haven detectives continue to actively investigate the agency’s open cases related to criminal activity involving members of Aurora’s migrant community. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Edilson Pena-Angulo, Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses arrested during New York City operation

(Dec. 4, 2024) – Two Aurora fugitives wanted for burglary and felony menacing in August were arrested last week in New York City based on an extensive investigation by Aurora Police Department detectives assigned to a special task force known as Operation Safe Haven.

Edilson Pena-Angulo, 25, and Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses, 23, were arrested last Wednesday, Nov. 27, in the Bronx borough of New York City during a gang task force operation involving local law enforcement agencies and U.S. Homeland Security Investigations. Pena-Angulo and Aramillo-Meneses are in U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement custody in New York.

Pena-Angulo and Aramillo-Meneses were wanted on Aurora Police Department warrants for first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm, both felonies. The warrants were authored by investigators assigned to Operation Safe Haven, which is a special Aurora Police Department task force activated in August to investigate crimes involving the city’s migrant community.

The warrants stemmed from Aug. 18, when a security camera captured Pena-Angulo, Aramillo-Meneses and four other armed men knocking on doors at an apartment complex about 10 minutes before a fatal shooting in the 1200 block of Dallas Street. By Oct. 2, Operation Safe Haven investigators positively identified and obtained arrest warrants for all six suspects. Three are now in custody.

The suspects include:

• Naudi Lopez-Fernandez – In custody
• Edilson Yoel Pena-Angulo – In custody
• Danyeer Aramillo-Meneses – In custody
• Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco – Wanted
• Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta – Wanted
• Adan Jose Ramirez-Sanchez – Wanted

Operation Safe Haven detectives continue to actively investigate the agency’s open cases related to criminal activity involving members of Aurora’s migrant community. As a result of those exhaustive and ongoing investigations, detectives have developed information that the three remaining suspects from the Aug. 18 security video have fled, as evidenced by the recent capture of two wanted fugitives in New York City.

“The arrests last week were the product of nothing other than the dedication of the city of Aurora’s officers and detectives, and our positive working relationships with local, state and federal partners throughout the country,” said Aurora police Chief Todd Chamberlain. “We will continue our unwavering pursuit of all the remaining suspects in this case, and anyone else who victimizes members of our community, until they are brought to justice.”

In addition to the two arrests, the New York City operation also netted the seizure of five firearms. The firearms are being transferred to Colorado to allow Operation Safe Haven investigators to determine if they are connected to any additional crimes in Aurora and the Denver metro area.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.

Aurora Police Announces Warrants, Arrest in 12th and Dallas Investigation

(Sept. 20, 2024) – The Aurora Police Department on Friday announced it has identified and obtained warrants for three men involved in the Aug. 18 shooting near 12th Avenue and Dallas Street, and who appeared in a security video that last month garnered international media attention.

On Thursday, Sept. 12, Aurora police submitted arrest warrants to the Arapahoe District Court for Anderson Zambrano-Pacheco, 25, Niefred Jose Serpa-Acosta, 20, and Naudi Lopez-Fernandez, 21, on charges of first-degree burglary and menacing with a firearm, both felonies.

Lopez-Fernandez is in custody. Aurora police is actively searching for Zambrano-Pacheco and Serpa-Acosta with the assistance of local, state and federal partners.

The warrants and charges stem from about 11:30 p.m. Aug. 18, when Aurora police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1200 block of Dallas Street. About 10 minutes before the shooting, six armed men, including five armed with handguns and one armed with a rifle, knocked on the doors of two apartments, unlawfully entered those apartments and threatened the residents with firearms.

The burglary and menacing offenses were captured on surveillance video, which was obtained by the Aurora Police Department during the initial, on scene investigation into the shooting. It is the same video that was later shared with local, national and international news outlets.

Within 12 hours of the shooting, Aurora police investigators obtained a search warrant for another neighboring apartment. A rifle matching the one depicted in the video was recovered during the search of the apartment.

One person, 25-year-old Oswaldo Jose Dabion Araujo, was fatally wounded during the Aug. 18 shooting. The Aurora Police Department Major Crime Homicide Unit is leading the investigation into the fatal shooting. That investigation is active and ongoing.

The Aurora Police Department and its local, state and federal partners continue to work to identify the three remaining, unknown armed men depicted in the surveillance video as part of a large-scale, multi-jurisdictional operation known as “Safe Haven.” At this time, none of the six men have been connected to an organized criminal organization.

Multiple investigations into the events of Aug. 18 remain active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters can remain anonymous and could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
