Emergency Medical Services (EMS)

Emergency medical service continues to provide Aurora Fire Rescue the greatest opportunity to serve our community. Each year almost 70% of the total Aurora Fire Rescue responses include medical emergencies.

The Aurora Fire Rescue authorized version of the Denver Metro Prehospital Protocols are utilized by Aurora Fire Rescue firefighter emergency medical technicians (EMTs) and firefighter paramedics as well as Falck Rocky Mountain EMTs and paramedics.

Emergency Medical Training

Systemwide Emergency Medical Training

The paramedics and EMTs of Aurora Fire Rescue continue to participate in weekly Emergency Medical Training sessions that bring all of the individual agencies within the Aurora emergency medical response system together for training. This training includes: Children's Hospital Colorado, University of Colorado Hospital and The Medical Center of Aurora, Aurora Fire Rescue and Falck Rocky Mountain ambulance company. The ultimate goal of this program is better medical care from the onset of an injury or illness until the patient is released from the hospital.

PediDOSE Study

When paramedics treat active seizures, one-third of children arrive at the hospital still seizing.  As part of the Pediatric Dose Optimization for Seizures in Emergency Medical Services (PediDOSE) study, Kathleen Adelgais, MD and  Deputy Chief Rodney Weber, FF – EMT B are trying to improve these outcomes by equipping paramedics to quickly give the right anti-seizure medication dose.   Because it is a time-sensitive condition when Aurora Fire Rescue transports a child to Children’s Hospital Colorado, children will get enrolled before parent/guardian permission can be sought.
