Are you ready to take charge of your financial future? Our Housing and Community Development team offers one-on-one financial management counseling as a city service. These personalized sessions are conducted by a U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) certified counselor, focusing on essential areas like credit, debt management and budgeting.

In these individual sessions, you’ll collaborate with a counselor to develop a customized action plan tailored to your unique financial situation. Whether you need to set realistic financial goals, create a budget that suits your lifestyle, reduce debt, formulate a debt payoff strategy, or build and improve your credit score, our expert counselors are here to support you every step of the way.

This service is ideal for anyone looking to enhance their financial literacy and achieve long-term financial stability with the goal of homeownership.

Special class being offer in September 2026: Financial Capability 101

Take control of your financial future! The city of Aurora is hosting a special, one-time class on Sept. 23 focused on providing participants with the skills they need to feel confident in managing their money.  

This program is in addition to the one-on-one financial management counseling the city already offers.  

The class will focus on beginner-level financial management skills including creating a budget, saving money, understanding the role of credit and building healthy financial habits. Whether you're just getting started, working toward buying a home, or simply want to improve your financial skills, this class offers practical tips you can use right away.

The class will feature a special guest speaker from UMB Bank who will cover topics including retirement savings tools such as 401(k) plans and IRAs.  

The class will be held from 2 to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 23 in the Aurora Room on the ground floor of the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway.
