Community Gardens

Community gardens are a critical component of Aurora's sustainability vision. A community garden is a shared green space created and cultivated by volunteers to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs for personal or community use. Aurora has 24 public community gardens where residents can reserve a plot forDig in Aurora handbook front cover the season. Plot fees cost about $40 for a growing season (fees vary by location; ability to pay is also considered). Plots fill up quickly. Contact a garden near you (listed below) to learn more and apply.

Interested in starting a community garden in Aurora? The Dig in Aurora Community Garden Handbook is a resource for groups or individuals looking to build their own community garden. This handbook outlines the process, provides a single point of contact, and helps you understand city requirements. For more details, contact us at [email protected] or 720.859.4407.

2023 Dig in Aurora Community Garden Competition Winners

Kudos to the community gardeners at Nome Park, Murphy Creek and Sanctuary Community Gardens for winning awards in the 2023 Dig in Aurora Community Garden Competition. This light-hearted competition among Aurora’s community gardens allows groups across the city to meet other gardeners, get new ideas and have fun.

Nome Park Community Garden walked away with the beloved golden shovel, honoring the hard and fun work gardeners put into making that garden special. Vista Peak Community Garden and Montview Park Community Garden also received honorable mentions and prizes for their gardens.

This year’s event was sponsored by Aurora Water and Nick's Garden Center. Thank you to our judges Caitlin Matthews from Food Justice Northwest Aurora, Colette Haskell from Nick’s Garden Center, and Diana Denwood from the city's Water Department.
