Community Gardens

Community gardens are a critical component of Aurora's sustainability vision. A community garden is a shared green space created and cultivated by volunteers to grow vegetables, fruits and herbs for personal or community use. Aurora has 24 public community gardens where residents can reserve a plot forDig in Aurora handbook front cover the season. Plot fees cost about $45 for a growing season (fees vary by location; ability to pay is often considered). Plots fill up quickly. Contact a garden near you (listed below) to learn more and apply.

Are you interested in starting a community garden in Aurora? The Dig in Aurora Community Garden Handbook is a resource for groups or individuals looking to build their own community garden. Aurora's 4rd Annual Seed Swap

Take home seeds for free and kickstart your gardening journey at our seed trading event! Explore a wide variety of seeds and bring packets of your own to exchange with fellow community members. Be sure to label your seed packets with their variety—paper envelopes are preferred, though plastic baggies are also accepted. Everyone is welcome, whether you’re sharing the abundance of your garden or swapping store-bought packets. Even seeds from 2019 are accepted, except squash and beans, which never expire!

Chat with knowledgeable volunteers and experienced gardeners to get valuable tips and advice for your garden. Don’t miss this wonderful opportunity to grow your garden, share resources and connect with your community. Let’s plant the seeds for a greener future together!
