Motor vehicle theft reports are time-sensitive. They should be made as soon as the incident occurs or is discovered. Here's what you need to have and know to make the process of reporting as quick as possible:
- licenses plate OR vehicle identification number (VIN)
- If you do not have your registration and you can't remember your vehicle information then you can call your insurance company and get the information from them
- There is a chance that your vehicle has been towed -- dispatch can look that information up with your licenses plate or VIN

- color - year - make - body - additional descriptors - license plate - state
- Suspect information
- Do you know for certain who took your car?
- If so, why do you suspect them?
Additional Information for reporting a stolen vehicle:
- If you are not the registered owner of the vehicle you CANNOT report the vehicle as stolen unless you are a closely related third party to the owner such as a:
- non-estranged spouse
- parent
- child
- sibling
- *OR an agent of a commercial business or dealership reporting on behalf of a company
- If there is NO suspect information, the report will be processed over the phone by a technician at APD's HQ / (303) 739-6050. This is the quickest way to get the information into the system.
