Aurora’s recognition on international stage grows with El Salvadoran Vice President’s landmark visit
One of the highest-profile foreign dignitaries ever to visit the city of Aurora, El Salvador Vice President Félix Ulloa, is making a historic trip Wednesday, Dec. 13. His visit marks an important moment in Aurora’s history and underscores the city’s increasing reputation as a high-profile player in global affairs.
Vice President Ulloa will participate in various events to strengthen diplomatic, economic and cultural ties between Aurora and El Salvador. He’ll take part in a networking event to discuss innovative ideas with local business leaders, engage in meaningful conversations with El Salvadorans in Aurora, and attend a reception hosted by Aurora Mayor Mike Coffman to further explore avenues of collaboration.
“The vice president’s trip announces to the world that the city of Aurora, the most culturally diverse city in Colorado, is welcomed and embraced on the world stage. His visit enhances our international status and opens doors to economic growth, cultural exchanges, and deeper global connections.” said Mayor Mike Coffman.
Aurora’s Office of International and Immigrant Affairs, a leader in the city’s efforts to foster global partnerships, arranged these pivotal meetings.
El Salvador and Aurora have a close relationship. Salvadorans make up the third-largest foreign-born population in Aurora. Mayor Coffman and Aurora’s two preceding mayors conducted business trips to San Salvador, and presented Aurora as a city with great investment opportunities. These visits resulted in El Salvador selecting Aurora for their consulate serving Colorado, Wyoming, Nebraska and Kansas. In 2022, Ilopango, El Salvador became a sister city of Aurora.
Aurora is “The World in a City” and proudly celebrates its international population. One out of five residents are foreign born, and more than 160 languages are spoken in Aurora schools. The city follows a detailed Immigrant Integration Plan to help immigrants and refugees integrate into the city’s civic, economic and cultural life.
The city is excited to host Vice President Ulloa and looks forward to valuable conversations, resulting in an ever-stronger partnership.
