Teen Advisory Group provides a space for teens to provide advice while earning volunteer hours
The
Teen Advisory Group (TAG) is a way for teens to earn volunteer time by creating and planning library events for their community. The group meets once a month to discuss a variety of topics. During our meetings, the teens let the librarians know what they’d like to see happen in the library. They come up with fun programming ideas like an after-hours Ghost Hunt and more. They also suggest and vote on the teen books for our Summer of Imagination program. Here are specific examples of what the TAGs have done recently:
At
Aurora Central Library, 14949 E. Alameda Parkway, the teens decide the theme of the teen space and help decorate it. Previous themes include the wild west and dinosaurs. They also helped develop some of the teen incentive programs to encourage more teens to read. Moving forward, the group will be looking into service projects to help our community. Stop by the teen space at Aurora Central Library to take part in a card making program that a member of our TAG has put together.
At
Mission Viejo Library, 15324 E. Hampden Circle, TAG help prep for kids' programs like the Stuffed Animal Sleepover program where they take pictures of children’s stuffed animals “spending the night” in the library or by making cardboard box cars for toddlers for a Drive-In Movie program. They also recently painted a mural in their Teen Zone, which looks amazing in the space.
At
Tallyn’s Reach Library, 23911 E. Arapahoe Road, the group designs and sets up book displays and help decorate the library for holidays. They’re also essential for coming up for themes for various lock-in events.
