An upcoming groundbreaking ceremony will officially kick off the Nine Mile Pedestrian Bridge project, which will span Parker Road near I-225 and connect the RTD Nine Mile Station with homes and businesses on the north side of Parker Road.
The city of Aurora, in collaboration with prime contractor JHL Constructors, will officially kick off the project from 10 to 11 a.m. Tuesday, Sept. 29, at the northeast corner of South Quari Street and South Parker Road, with parking on East Eastman Place. The event is open to the public.
The $9.3 million project will enhance regional multimodal connectivity by offering a safe crossing over Parker Road. Creating infrastructure to better support alternate modes of transportation is expected to help improve traffic flow along this major metro-area corridor.
Starting in September and continuing into November, crews will focus on initial site work, erosion control and preparation of utilities prior to above-ground construction.
Following this, there will be minimal on-site operations until spring 2027 when crews return to start building the foundation and pedestrian ramps that will lead to the bridge structure.
The bridge is being fabricated at an off-site location and is scheduled to be installed in summer 2027. The entire project is expected to be complete in fall 2027.
As construction kicks off, general working hours will take place from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Friday. Motorists can expect intermittent single-lane closures on Parker Road between South Peoria Street and I-225. Northbound lane closures will take place between 11 a.m. and 3 p.m., and southbound closures will take place from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. All lanes will be open during peak travel times for the initial site work.
