Aurora Public Library continues to make an impact in 2025

Aurora Public Library releases its 2025 data highlighting community usage and top checked out items across all ages and genres, noting a total system usage of 2.8 million.

In 2025, that total number item checkouts were 991,392, including physical and digital content. Total visits across the system were over 527,000 throughout the year. Aurora Public Library saw an increase in library card signups from 299,386 in 2024 to 331,825, a 10.8% increase. There was also an increase in mobile app usage from 9,208 to 29,431, a 68% increase. Program attendance in 2025 was 76,128 with the most attended programs were for youth at 35,577. Between public computers and wireless access, there were over 258,000 computer sessions, and staff was approached 63,273 times.

“It’s exciting to see the importance of library access from the community,” said Joanna McNeal, deputy director of Library Services. “Our data indicates that the community seeks a space for connection and knowledge and we’re happy to fulfill that need.”

The library also shared information on the most popular items checked out in 2025. From the physical collection, the most read adult fiction book was “The Women” by Kristin Hannah with 153 checkouts, adult non-fiction was “The Anxious Generation: How the Great Rewiring of Childhood is Causing an Epidemic of Mental Illness” by Haidt, Jonathan with 31 checkouts and teen fiction was “Sunrise on the Reaping” by Suzanne Collions with 85 checkouts. For children, the top middle grade book checked out was “Diary of a Wimpy Kid: The Ugly Truth” by Jeff Kinney with 125 check outs and the top picture book was “Pete the Cat and His Four Groovy Buttons” by Eric Litwin with 11 check outs. 

The most popular eBooks checked out were “The Women” by Kristin Hannah with 386 checkouts, “Onyx Storm” by Rebecca Yarros with 346 checkouts and “The Wedding People” by Alison Espach with 218 checkouts. The top three audiobooks were “Onyx Storm” by Rebecca Yarros with 681 checkouts, “The Housemaid” by Freida McFadden with 635 checkouts and “The Tenant” by Freida McFadden with 448 checkouts. The most popular DVDs were “Inside Out 2” with 80 checkouts, “Deadpool and Wolverine” with 69 checkouts, “Paw Patrol: Rescue Wheels” with 62 checkouts, “Moana 2” with 61 checkouts and “Frozen II” with 60 checkouts.
