Aurora Water's mission is to deliver safe, reliable, high quality and sustainable water, sewer and stormwater services.

As a large city not located near a major water source, Aurora Water has had to be creative and forward-thinking in its approach to meeting its community's water needs. Aurora's semi-arid environment challenges us — but it also inspires bold solutions. From securing diverse water supplies to investing in advanced infrastructure, Aurora Water is constantly working behind the scenes to ensure clean water flows from every tap, supporting public health, a thriving economy and the everyday quality of life we all enjoy.

Where your water comes from, how it reaches your tap and its future direction
Colorado's role as a vital headwater state, and how Colorado does not sell its water to other states, but by law how our state must share it
How early Aurora settlers used "first in time, first in right: rules to transform a semi-arid area into a booming city

During this in-person or online class, explore Aurora Water's Source Water Protection Program. Discover how we safeguard our rivers, lakes and groundwater from contamination to keep your drinking water clean, reliable and resilient.

Wildfire is the single greatest threat to Aurora’s watersheds. Aurora Water proactively combats this danger and protects critical infrastructure through:

Forest thinning to mitigate devastating wildfires
Wetland and riparian restoration to naturally filter water
Post-fire recovery projects to stop sediment from choking our supply

Class registration for Understanding Aurora's Water Supply: Conservation, Drought and Supply

In-person class limited to 15 participants. Registration is required.

In this one-hour hybrid class, better understand how vital mountain snowpack is to Colorado and how Aurora secures and manages its water in a drought-prone region. You will discover the journey of our water from the mountains to local faucets and explore how the city plans ahead for dry years. We will look at how our water infrastructure operates, how drought restrictions work, and easy ways you can save water and money at home.

Registration is required.

Water in Colorado is a precious commodity, and Aurora Water is leading the state in stretching every drop further. Aurora has the highest water reuse rate in the state thanks to the pioneering Prairie Waters System. Since 2010, this innovative potable reuse system uses a sustainable water source by recapturing river water. See the science in action during a Binney Tour.

Registration requirements:

Everyone must be registered. Unregistered participants will not be allowed to attend the tour.
Participants must be 16 or older.
Legs must be covered by long pants, dresses or skirts. Shorts and shorter dresses or skirts are not allowed.
Closed-toed shoes such as sneakers must be worn. Sandles and flip-flops are not permitted.
A driver's license, state ID or passport information is required and will be checked at the front gate.
