Aurora Traffic Detectives Issue Summons to Driver Following Crash that Killed 12-Year-Old
Posted on 07/25/2025

(July 25, 2025) – The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigations Unit is seeking charges against a driver involved last weekend in an auto-pedestrian crash that resulted in the death of a 12-year-old pedestrian.

Christopher Ramirez-Rodriguez, 19, of Aurora, was issued a summons Friday for careless driving resulting in death. Formal charges will be filed by the 18th Judicial District Attorney’s Office.

The charge stems from 10:09 a.m. Saturday, when District 3 patrol officers responded to a report of a collision along East Iliff Avenue near the Cherry Creek Spillway Crossing. The investigation found the 12-year-old victim was using the marked crosswalk on an electric scooter when Ramirez-Rodriguez failed to stop for the crossing’s red light and struck the boy. The investigation determined the pedestrian had activated the red signal light that stops both east and westbound traffic when the crash happened.

Witnesses provided first aid to the boy until first responders arrived at the scene. The 12-year-old was taken to a local hospital, where he later died from his injuries.

Ramirez-Rodriguez remained on scene and was cooperative with the investigation. Investigators do not suspect drugs or alcohol, but are investigating distracted driving as a contributing factor to the crash.

The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
