(Dec. 2, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department is investigating a shooting with multiple victims that occurred overnight in the 1300 block of Joliet Street.
Officers were in the area when about 12:15 a.m. Saturday, Dec. 2, 2023, they heard nearby shooting. They responded to the sound of gunfire and found an active shooting scene at a house party with more than 100 minors and young adults who were running from or speeding from the scene in vehicles.
One vehicle created a safety risk to responding officers and fleeing partygoers. Officers attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle failed to yield. Given the circumstances, a pursuit was authorized, and officers were able to quickly disable the vehicle.
The 18-year-old driver ran but was quickly taken into custody without further incident. A handgun with a large capacity magazine was recovered from the vehicle. It’s unclear as of this morning if the driver was involved in the shooting that prompted the officers’ initial response.
Four people were taken or self-transported to nearby hospitals with gunshot wounds, including an 18-year-old woman, two 19-year-old men and a 17-year-old boy. None of the injuries appeared to be life threatening.
The investigation is active and ongoing. Anyone with information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
