(November 26, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department is searching for a driver involved Sunday morning in a fatal crash in southwest Aurora.
About 7:15 a.m. Sunday, Aurora patrol officers responded to a report of a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of East Iliff Avenue and South Havana Street. When officers arrived at the scene, they found a 28-year-old man who had died from injuries he sustained in the crash. He will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
The preliminary investigation revealed a 2000 Honda Accord was driving south on Havana when it was struck in the driver’s side door by a 2013 Hyundai Elantra. Investigators suspect the Hyundai ran a red light immediately before the crash.
The driver of the Hyundai ran after the crash. He has not yet been positively identified or located.
Anyone with any information about the driver of the Hyundai or his whereabouts is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Tipsters could be eligible for a reward of up to $2,000.
The crash closed the intersection of Iliff and Havana for more than six hours. The roadway reopened to normal traffic at 1:20 p.m.
The crash marks the 62nd traffic-related death this year in Aurora.
