Aurora Police Investigating Friday Fatal SUV vs. Motorcycle Crash
(Sept. 11, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle versus motorcycle crash that occurred last week in the City Center neighborhood.
Officers responded at 4:26 p.m. Friday, to a report of a crash in the 400 block of South Abilene Street. The investigation revealed a man riding a motorcycle was northbound on Abilene when it was stuck by a Honda SUV turning left from a shopping center parking lot.
The driver of the Honda, a woman, was taken to a nearby hospital as a precaution and has since been treated and released. The motorcycle rider also was taken to a local hospital where he died Sunday afternoon from injuries he sustained in the crash. The man will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
A left turn violation by the driver of the Honda is considered a possible contributing factor of the crash, as is vehicle speed on the part of the motorcycle rider. A final determination is pending scientific reconstruction of the crash.
The crash marks the 45th traffic-related death this year in Aurora.
The crash remains under investigation. Anyone with any information is asked to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867).
