Aurora Police Investigating Overnight Fatal Vehicle vs. Pedestrian Crash

(Sept. 11, 2023) – The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating a fatal vehicle versus pedestrian crash that occurred Sunday night in North Aurora.

Officers responded at 10:19 p.m. Sunday, to a report of a crash near the intersection of Peoria Street and East Montview Boulevard. The initial investigation revealed a 2012 Dodge Ram driven by a 21-year-old man was driving south on Peoria when it struck another man who was crossing the intersection.

The pedestrian was taken to a local hospital where he died of his injuries. He will be identified by the Adams County Coroner’s Office.

The driver of the Dodge Ram remained at the scene and is cooperating with the investigation. Speed and alcohol are not considered contributing factors to the crash.

Peoria Street was closed between 19th Avenue and Montview Boulevard for about three hours for the crash investigation. The roadway reopened about 1:15 a.m. Monday.

The crash marks the 46th traffic-related death this year in Aurora.
