(Sept. 5, 2023) – An Aurora man died Sunday from injuries he sustained in a serious vehicle crash Saturday night in the Southeast Crossing neighborhood.
Aurora police officers responded to the crash at 11:40 p.m. Saturday, near the intersection of South Chambers Road and East Iliff Avenue. A grey Lexus ES330 occupied by three people was driving west on Iliff when it ran a red light and struck a black Nissan Rogue that was southbound on Chambers.
The Nissan was occupied by two people. The driver, a 23-year-old Aurora man, was rushed to a nearby hospital in serious condition. He died the following day from the injuries he sustained in the crash. The man will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
The driver of the Lexus, a 25-year-old Denver man, also was taken to the hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. He was still in the hospital as of Tuesday afternoon.
The passengers of the Lexus and the Nissan also were taken to local hospitals. The status of those patients was not known as of Tuesday afternoon.
The Aurora Police Department Traffic Investigation Unit is investigating the crash. Intoxication and speed are considered contributing factors, and charges against the driver of the Lexus are pending.
The crash marks the 44th traffic-related death this year in Aurora.
