Candidate Nomination Petitions Available Aug. 9
Residents who plan to run for the Aurora City Council as part of the Nov. 7, 2023, election may pick up a nomination petition section starting Wednesday, Aug. 9, at the Aurora City Clerk’s Office in the Aurora Municipal Center, 15151 E. Alameda Parkway.
Packets are available Monday through Friday from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. (or by appointment from 8 to 9 a.m. or 4 to 5 p.m.).
The offices of Mayor, Ward IV, Ward V, Ward VI and two At-large positions will appear on the 2023 ballot.
Candidates for office are nominated by petition sections supplied by the Aurora City Clerk. Candidates become certified after their petition sections are approved.
Nomination petition sections may be picked up through Aug. 29, but must be filed with the City Clerk’s Office by 5 p.m. Aug. 29.
Candidates for mayor and at-large positions must obtain a minimum of 100 valid signatures of registered electors residing anywhere within the city of Aurora. A registered elector may sign no more than one candidate petition for the office of mayor, and no more than two at-large candidate petitions.
Candidates for a city council ward position must obtain a minimum of 50 valid signatures of registered electors residing within their ward. A registered elector may sign only one ward candidate petition.
Candidates must be 21 years of age or older and have resided within the municipal boundaries of Aurora for at least one year immediately preceding the date of the election. Candidates for ward seats are required to be one-year residents of the respective wards from which they are elected.
