Aurora Fire Rescue and Wildland Fire crews responded to a large brush fire at approximately 1 pm near East Sports Park Drive and Tower Road. The fire was approximately 2 acres in size and required immediate attention. Fire crews utilized specialized wildland fire apparatus and equipment to combat the fire. AFR saved the golf course and surrounding structures by putting an expedient stop to the fire's spread.
All fire hot spots have been extinguished except for a heavily burnt tree. AFR has set up a fire watch, a precautionary measure to ensure the safety of the area. We are waiting for Forestry to assist in cutting down the tree, thereby mitigating the hazard.
No injuries were reported, and the cause and origin of the fire are under investigation.
