Aurora Police Investigating Overnight Homicide, Serious 2-Vehicle Crash
(April 6, 2023) — The Aurora Police Department is investigating a string of incidents all connected to a fatal shooting that occurred Wednesday night in a shopping center parking lot near the Dayton Triangle neighborhood.
At 10:53 p.m. Wednesday, Aurora police officers responded to a report of a shooting in the 1600 block of S. Havana Street. The investigation revealed two males and one female were sitting in a Kia Forte in front of a grocery store when a silver Chevy Impala occupied by a male driver and an unknown passenger arrived at the scene.
The male driver of the Impala exited the vehicle with a rifle and fired into the Kia Forte at the two males, who were sitting in the driver’s and front passenger seats. The front seat passenger was struck by gunfire.
The driver and male passenger of the Kia Forte exited the vehicle, brandished firearms of their own and shot back, striking the driver of the Impala. The female passenger of the Kia Forte also exited the vehicle and ran into the grocery store.
After the shootout, the driver of the Impala limped back to his vehicle. He was sped away from the scene and dropped off in front of a local hospital, prompting another 911 call about a walk-in gunshot wound. The driver of the Impala ultimately succumbed to his wounds.
The driver and passenger of the Kia Forte also sped away after the shooting, leaving their female passenger behind at the grocery store. Minutes later, they were involved in a crash with a Kia Soul near the intersection of Peoria Street and Del Mar Parkway. Both males were ejected during the crash and sustained critical injuries. The driver of the Kia Soul, the only occupant of that vehicle, sustained serious but non-life threatening injuries.
The parties involved are not yet being identified pending confirmation and notifications of next of kin. The deceased driver of the Chevy Impala will be identified by the Arapahoe County Coroner’s Office.
Anyone who has any information about this case, who hasn’t already spoken with an investigator, is encouraged to contact Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.STOP (7867). Investigators are particularly interested in speaking with the unknown occupant of the Chevy Impala.
