News Release

A fire at a laundromat near Macon St. and Colfax Ave caused the business to be evacuated this afternoon.

Around 1:15 p.m. 911 callers reported smoke filling the building at 1545 N. Macon St. Resources from Aurora Fire Rescue responded and upgraded the incident to a “working structure fire,” effectively adding the needed engine and ladder companies to the incident. There were no reports of injuries and everyone inside the building safely evacuated.

The fire was quickly brought under control, and firefighters worked extensively inside the building to ensure that all hot spots had been addressed, and that there was no extension into other parts of the building. The origin and cause of the fire are under investigation.

Aurora Fire Rescue encourages everyone to be aware of safe evacuation procedures in case you need to leave quickly. If an emergency occurs while you are shopping or conducting business at a local store here are a few tips to remember:

  • Stop your activity immediately.
  • Look for EXIT signs and follow them to the safest exit.
  • Move away from the building.
  • Call 911 as soon as possible.
