News Release- Structure fire near Olathe Street & Colorado Ave
First arriving fire crews fight heavy fire in residential home.
At approximately 0223 on September 30, 2023, Aurora Fire was dispatched to a report of a structure fire in the neighborhood near Olathe Street and Colorado Avenue.
The first arriving crews found a two-story single-family home with heavy fire coming from the backside of the house extending the first and second floors, and the attic space. Crews worked quickly and efficiently to gain water supply from a hydrant, place hose lines into the home, complete searches for any missing people or pets, and shut-off utilities for the safety of firefighters.
According to reports, there was a heavy amount of fire on all floors, and firefighters had to coordinate hose lines, and use teamwork to bring the fire under control. One patient was found inside the garage and taken outside to safety where they were medically treated by crews on-scene, no injuries to report and the patient was not transported to an area hospital. Two cats and a dog were rescued from the home and returned to the homeowners.
The Red Cross was notified and are working on gaining shelter for the family. The fire is under investigation to find the origin and cause of the fire. No further information expected.
