Watering Times

Colorado has experienced lower-than-normal precipitation since 2020. Aurora Water is carefully monitoring both our water mountain water supply and our in-town demands. Learn more on our drought page.

Aurora's water availability status is NORMAL.

Under Normal status, watering is permitted no more than three days per week. From May 1 to September 30, watering is not permitted between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m.

Aurora Water's Landscape Watering Rules for 2022

  • Between 10 a.m. and 6 p.m., watering vegetable or flower gardens by hand is allowed.
  • Hand watering (hose or manual sprinkler attachment) of grass lawns follows the same guidelines as an automatic sprinkler system. The three day a week and watering time conservation measures apply.
  • Water waste such as excessive runoff, pooling water, and watering of hard surfaces is not permitted.
  • Do not allow water to pool in gutters, streets or alleys.
  • Sprinkler system leaks are required to be repaired or shut off to prevent waste.
  • Use a hose nozzle and shut-off valve when watering your garden or washing your car.

  • New sod, seed and irrigation systems require a permit. Call 303.739.7195 or click here for a permit application and additional information.

  • Report water waste violations.

Other water-saving tips:

  • Do not water while it's raining or during high winds. Aurora Water offers rebates on rain sensors and smart controllers to help.

  • Check your sprinkler system to ensure it is working properly and not spraying concrete or asphalt.
  • Sign up for a free Outdoor Water Assessment (June 1- Aug. 31) for a full inspection and recommendations on keeping your sprinkler system working efficiently. Space is limited.

  • Check out our DIY outdoor water assessment guide to help you conduct an outdoor water assessment on your own.

We all need to do our part to save water. Please use water wisely.
