At approximately 6:10 pm this evening, Aurora Fire Rescue crews were dispatched to a reported structure fire at a church at 13120 E Kentucky avenue in Aurora. While in route, a second report came in for a church at 1000 S Uvalda st. in Aurora. Upon arrival, crews found that the structure in question was the 1000 S Uvalda address and not the Kentucky avenue address.
Crews quickly made entrance to an auxiliary storage structure on the property which was the origination building of the reported fire. Upon entrance crews found extremely low visibility and limited access from the interior also determined that the fire had moved into the attic and roof structure. At that time, fire operations moved from the interior to the exterior of the structure with large fire truck mounted hose lines and hose streams from aerial ladders towards the structure.
After approximately 20 minutes of exterior operations, the fire was brought under control and crews were able to make entry into the structure. Searches for any trapped parties were completed within the primary and an adjacent building, no persons or animals found.
Crews completed searches for any hidden fires, finding none. The cause of the incident is under investigation.
