Water Conservation

Water-wise landscape

In Colorado, we rely heavily on snowmelt for our water supply. Coloradans know the weather here can be unpredictable, making it difficult to know how much water will be available each summer. We can experience several years of drought and then receive record snow levels.

It's important to remember that Aurora has a semi-arid climate. Aurora's snow and rain are about half of the average annual precipitation for the United States, so it's important that we all do our part to help conserve water.

Water conservation can help you save water and money. Staff is here to help, so if you have additional questions, call 303.739.7195 or email [email protected]. You can also view the Aurora Water 2015 Municipal Water Efficiency Plan.

A landscape designer will work with you to create a free water-wise design for your yard. Aurora Water also offers a rebate by replacing your turf lawn with a water-wise landscape. There are requirements for the rebate program, learn more through the link above.

We have one of the largest demonstration gardens in the state at the Aurora Municipal Center. Wandering through the garden is a great way to learn about the variety of low-water plants available to add to your garden. We have volunteer opportunities in the garden with staff who have expertise in water-wise plants.

We offer various rebates that help you save water and money. Rebates include a water-wise landscaping rebate, ultra-high-efficiency toilets rebates, irrigation efficiency rebates and a low-income program.

We provide both indoor and outdoor water assessments. Let us help you troubleshoot your irrigation system to make sure it works efficiently. Or we can identify and respond to leaks in your home. You can also use our DIY guidebooks to perform your own assessments.

Aurora Water can help you save water, whether your property is big, small or somewhere between. We’ll work with you to identify areas for greater efficiency and connect you with the right services and rebates for your needs.

You’ll receive a monthly email with a summary of your indoor and outdoor water use. These reports also include recommended water use customized to your property. From April through October, you’ll receive weekly emails with recommended watering times for your sprinkler system. This program is currently available to customers who live in single-family detached homes.

From bee condos to composting to yoga in the garden, we offer a variety of free classes. You’ll be a water conservation champion in no time. Register here.

Aurora has water restrictions in place between 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. year-round and a three-day maximum per week from May 1 through Sept. 30. Learn about our recommendations based on the cycle-and-soak method of applying water to the landscape.

Before you install sod, seed or an irrigation system recently, you're going to need a permit. Find applications and additional information above.
