Volunteer Profile: Dave Heflin
Dave Heflin, citizen of Aurora for 79 years, has volunteered with the Aurora History Museum since March 2015. In his years of service, Dave has put in over 1,300 volunteer hours at the museum. Dave’s favorite part about volunteering at the museum is, “Meeting people from all over the world and all over the country. And I mean the WORLD! Thirty percent of what I have learned and tell folks I’ve learned is from visitors.”
When asked what the most positive change in the city has been over the years, he said the amazing Aurora Water Department. The acquisition of reservoirs and access to mountain water has been a huge improvement in recent years. The largest change Dave has witnessed in his time in Aurora has been the huge boom in land acquisition and population.
Dave’s favorite object to talk about in the museum is the Burma-Shave advertisement in Trolley 610. He recalls seeing the same advertisement in public transit when he was a young man. Ask him about it the next time you seem him!
