Community Relations Section

Community Relations Section Objective

In October 2020, a five-point plan for rebuilding community trust called "A New Way" was unveiled. One of the most important leadership components of the plan is to elevate community relations to the highest level of the organization by adding a non-sworn member to lead those efforts to the Chief's Executive Staff.

The Community Relations Section is dedicated to building collaborative partnerships between the Aurora Police Department and the individuals and organizations it serves. One of the ways we do this is by providing training to members of the Aurora Police Department on diversity, empathy and community concerns. We bring Aurora community voices into the conversation of policing to develop lasting solutions to problems, create mutual understanding and foster a strong, healthy public and police relationship. Mutual understanding holds a critical role as it leads to respect for core interests, major concerns and expands consensus on common goals, which is the basis for long-term healthy public and police relationships.
