Read Across America (Week 1)
by Stacy
Read Across America is a year-long celebration of all things reading! Starting in August and ending in July, Read Across America is about making time to read with kids and showing how reading is important and fun!
If we are going to create more readers, more writers, people who feel included and recognized, and people who understand that the world is far richer than just their experiences alone, kids need books that are as diverse and complex as the society we live in.
Join us each week as we share more Books Across America! Enjoy the comforts of reading in your own state, or travel the map to explore something new!
Check out our first set of book recommendations, featuring stories set in Alabama, Alaska, Arizona, Arkansas, California, Colorado Connecticut, Delaware, Florida and the District of Columbia!

On Wednesday March 3rd, 2021, at approximately 4:25p.m, District 1 Patrol Officers responded to a report of a shooting at the Telegraph Hills II Condos, which are located in the 12000blk of E. Harvard Avenue in Southwest Aurora.
Upon arrival officers located an adult male in the parking lot who had been shot. He was transported to a local hospital where he tragically succumbed to his injuries.
This case is still an active investigation and at this time there is no additional information to share. Investigators believe this is an isolated incident and that there is no danger to the general public.
The name of the victim will be released by the Arapahoe County Coroner's Office once he has been positively identified and his next of kin have been notified.
Anyone with information about his case is asked to call Metro Denver Crime Stoppers at 720.913.7867. By using crime stoppers tipsters can remain anonymous and be eligible for a REWARD of up to $2,000.

Reader's Realm: Sports
with Lisa
Welcome to the Readers’ Realm. This month’s genre: SPORTS! Plan to read your book in about a month. A new discussion topic will be posted each Wednesday from now through March 24. Then on to a new genre/category!
Feel free to post as much as you like. Click on the title of the post to get to the comment page. Be sure to read others’ comments and respond to them. Let’s get to it:
There are SO many sports and books about them! What sport is your book about? I find that sports books fall into two types: having the sporting event front and center (little else matters) or having the characters and their problems/adventures front and center with the sporting event as more of a backdrop. Which do you think your book will be?
Please include the title and author of the book you’re reading in your post.
I’m reading "Gabby Garcia’s Ultimate Playbook" by Iva-Marie Palmer. The main character, Gabby, is a baseball player. I’m only up to page 40, but it seems that while baseball will be important to the book, as it is important to Gabby’s life, the story will be more about her adapting to a new school, new friends, a new team, and a bully. I’m hoping there’s some good baseball action though.

Remember, your mental health matters.
This month’s Mental Health Spotlight is on eating disorders.
Eating disorders are real, complex, bio-psycho-social diseases that can have a serious impact on health, productivity and relationships. They are NOT fads, phases, or lifestyle choices. Anyone can develop an eating disorder—no matter your age, race, gender or weight.
The most common eating disorders are anorexia, bulimia and binge eating disorder.
People struggling with an eating disorder often become obsessed with food, body image and weight.
Take this short screening to determine if you may be grappling with eating disorder behaviors and if it's time to seek professional help.
About Eating Disorders
Eating Disorders are one of the most misunderstood mental illnesses. They also have one of the highest mortality rates. While eating disorders manifest in behaviors regarding food and weight, eating disorders revolve around control. An eating disorder can give someone a false sense of security and order. Eating disorders often co-occur with other mental illnesses, such as depression, bipolar disorder, anxiety or post-traumatic stress disorder.
