Library COVID FAQs

What to Expect When You Visit

Welcome back to the Aurora Public Library, we’ve missed you!  We’ve made some changes to make your library experience safer and more enjoyable for you and your family; please take a moment to go over our new procedures:

  • For the safety of our staff and customers, we are asking that everyone over the age of 2 wears a mask inside the library, fully covering their mouth and nose.
  • Please remember to maintain a distance of 6’ from your fellow customers, for the health of yourself and others.
  • Our staff cares about your well-being, and in adherence with current Public Health Orders we are limiting the number of people within the building to 50% capacity.
  • While we adhere to Public Health Orders, we also want as many people as possible to have access to library resources. We ask that you limit your library visit to 1 hour, so others have a chance to use the library.
  • Please stay with your family groups at all times and keep your children with you as you browse.
  • For their health and safety, all children aged 12 and under need to be accompanied by an adult.

Why have your hours changed?

  • In order to ensure staff have the opportunity to fully clean our facility each night, we have adjusted our hours. Please remember that our digital books, eBooks, movies, and more are available 24/7 at AuroraLibrary.org.

Are you still offering curbside service?

Why do I have to wear a mask?

  • On July 16, Governor Polis issued Executive Order D2020-138, which states that everyone 10 years and older entering into a public indoor space must wear a mask.
  • Tri-County Health Department has also issued a Health Order Requiring Facial Covering, stating that parents are strongly encouraged to have children aged 2 and older to wear coverings.
  • According to the Center for Disease Control, COVID-19 can be spread by people who are asymptomatic, or not exhibiting symptoms.  In order to protect members of our community who are vulnerable to this illness, a face covering provides an extra layer of safety. Our staff takes our responsibility to the citizens of Aurora seriously, and we thank you for your support in this matter.

What if I don’t have a mask?

  • We are happy to provide you with a mask to wear while you are in the library! Please ask a staff member for assistance.

Are study room available?
  • Unfortunately, due to safety standards put forth by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, our study rooms are currently unavailable.

Are meeting rooms available for use/reservations?

  • Unfortunately, due to safety standards put forth by the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment, we are unable, at this time, to open our meeting rooms for use, or to make reservations for a future date.

I need to fill out a job application/unemployment forms/etc...Is it possible to extend my visit or computer time?

  • Computer time may be extended on a case by case basis. However, in order to make your visit more efficient, we ask that customers come prepared with all the documents needed (I.e. resumes, cover letters, tax forms, login information, etc...).  Please keep in mind that our ability to provide 1:1 computer assistance will be hampered by social distancing guidelines, so it may be useful to bring a family member or friend to assist if you are not familiar with computers.

How can we be sure that staff members are not infected with COVID-19?

  • Before entering the building, staff members have their temperature taken. If staff report to work ill or are found to be potentially compromised, they will be sent home. While at work, staff will wear masks, wash and sanitize hands frequently, and practice social distancing. Curbside pickup of holds is a contact free process. Your safety and the safety of our staff is our priority.

I have books to return, but I or someone in my house is sick - should I return my items?

  • No! Stay home, and get everyone feeling well again. Simply give us a call at 303.739.6628, and we’ll be happy to extend your check-out date, with no fines accrued. You can turn your items in when everyone is healthy again.

I have books to donate, can I drop them off?

  • Our staff is unable to accept donations at this time. Please contact the Friends of the Aurora Public Library at 720.747.7977 in regards to donations.
